The name Longforgan comes from a latin name meaning "land above the marsh" which comes from the village being situated on high ground compared to the lower ground of the fields near the River Tay.
The main street in Longforgan contains the bowling club, police station, post office,primary school, coaching inn, general store and Longforgan Parish Church.
The church is only a short distance from the new development by Hadden Homes at Rawes Farm Steading, Longforgan, Dundee.
